LG G6 announced: A new Android beast

LG has taken a safe approach with the G6 this year after being criticized about the G5 for so long. LG G6 now sticks with an all metal and glass design, instead of being “modular” like the G5. However, this means that the G6 battery won’t be removable. In term of LG G6 specs, the phone boasts a 5.7″ 144o x 2880 pixels resolution display screen (18:9 aspect ratio), which is a bit odd. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 821 quad-core (2 x 2.35GHz + 2 x 1.6GHz), 4GB RAM and 32/64GB ROM.
Keeping the tradition alive, LG G6 cameras come with a dual setup on the back. The phone is mounted with 2 x 13MP with f/1.8 and f/2.4 back cameras, while the front camera is 5MP f/2.2. The back cameras come with LED flash and have laser autofocus feature, capable of recording 2160p@30fps and 1080p@30fps videos. Consider what LG G5’s cameras are capable of, we can be sure that the G6 will be one of the best camera phone this year.

Other features include a non-removable 3300mAh battery with wireless charging and Quick Charge 3.0 technology (50% in 30min). The phone also supports USB v3.1 and USB Type-C. Internal storage can be expand up to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone has a fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear and an audio jack on the top (now take that Apple).

As for LG G6 price, the phone will be sold around $800 ~ Rs. 53390.

Oppo shows off impressive new zoom technology, but forgets to put it on a real phone

Oppo’s big Mobile World Congress announcement wasn’t an actual phone. Sure it arrived in a prototype roughly the size and shape of a phone, but it wasn’t really. It was proof of concept, the company showing off the imagine technology it’s spent the last year working on.
That’s not to say it wasn’t impressive. The company has apparently cracked the code on bringing 5x zoom to the back of a handset without adding a massive camera bump. The answer, it seems, is two lenses (pro tip: the answer is apparently always two lenses) at two different focal points.
The system, reportedly inspired by submarine periscopes, turns one of the lens arrays sideways, a 90-degree shift that houses it across the length of the device rather than facing outward like more traditional lens systems. The company refers to the system as “lossless zoom,” offering a 5x zoom that does a much better job than most phone cameras of getting in tight without massively degrading the image

Optical image stabilizing, meanwhile, gets rid of much of the shaking you traditionally get when you’re zoomed in super tight. It’s a clever innovation, and one that worked well in the demo unit I tested it out on.
Of course, that feature alone won’t be enough to sell too many people on a new handset. And while the company has, by its own account, aggressively patented the tech, it would be nice to see it implement more widely on different devices. Heck, even one would be nice. For now, it’s just the stuff of prototypes.
Of course, Oppo seems to know what it’s doing of late. The company’s seen massive growth in its native China over the past year, growing sales 122-percent from 2015 to 2016 to become the top handset maker in the world’s largest smartphone market. And imaging has certainly been a big part of that play, though past technologies were largely focused on shooting better selfies.

Timing on seeing the technology on an actual devices is still up in the air – along with whether it will eventually arrive here in the States, be it through Oppo’s own US distribution or through third-party licensing

Smartphones are everywhere, but one with features as alluring as the Gionee M6 will always stand the test of time. If you think the way to a man’s heart is food, trust me, the new Gionee M6 will change your mind.
Despite the ubiquitous nature of smartphones, the Gionee M6 is an easy pick for anyone who craves the best in a smartphone. Join me as I take you on my journey to the mysterious phone island where my Gionee masterpiece was discovered.

Before Vaquitas Vanish, a Desperate Bid to Save Them

No more than 30 vaquitas are left in Mexico’s Gulf of California.
Experts propose keeping some in captivity as a last resort.

SAN FELIPE, Mexico — In the shallow sea waters of the Gulf of California swims a porpoise that few have seen, its numbers dwindling so fast that its very existence is now in peril.
Known mostly by its Spanish name, the snub-nosed vaquita is the world’s smallest cetacean, a miniature porpoise with a cartoonlike features and dark smudges around its eyes. The species lives only in the fertile waters of the gulf’s northern corner.
The size of its population has always been precarious, but now voracious demand in China for a fish that shares the vaquita’s only habitat has pushed the tiny porpoise to the brink of extinction.
No more than 30 vaquitas are left, according to a November estimate based on monitoring of their echolocation clicks. Half of the vaquitas counted a year earlier have disappeared.

This calamity has hardly gone unnoticed. The vaquita has been vanishing in plain sight, to the despair of conservationists who have been advising the Mexican government on how to save it. All of the resources brought to bear, including the protection of the Mexican Navy, have proved to be no match against the illegal wildlife trade.
“If we continue on the path we’re on, we’ll have no vaquitas in two years,” said Barbara Taylor, a marine mammal expert at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The vaquita are simply bycatch, trapped and drowned in curtains of illegal gillnets set for an endangered fish called the totoaba. The fish’s swim bladder is dried and smuggled to China, where wealthy diners pay thousands of dollars for the delicacy, believing it to have medicinal powers.

To feed that appetite, totoaba poachers have killed 90 percent of the vaquita population since 2011, according to the acoustic monitoring program led by Armando Jaramillo Legorreta at the Mexican government’s National Ecology and Climate Change Institute, known as INECC.
With so few vaquitas left, experts advising the Mexican government have proposed capturing several specimens and holding them in a sea pen as a way of conserving the species until the threat to its habitat is removed. It’s a last-ditch measure that conservationists had hoped they would never have to resort to.
“We had always been opposed to captivity,” said Lorenzo Rojas Bracho, a marine mammal expert at INECC and the chairman of an advisory group, the International Committee for Vaquita Recovery. But nobody expected that the population would decline so quickly.
“There are risks,” Dr. Rojas Bracho said of the capture plan. “But they are fewer than leaving them with the fishing as it is.”
The plan would entail training United States Navy dolphins to locate vaquitas, capturing them for transfer to a temporary pool and then to a sea pen to be built in their habitat along the Gulf of California coast. The majority of vaquitas would remain in the wild.
But the unknowns loom large. “We don’t know whether they find them,” Dr. Taylor said of the dolphins. “We don’t know whether we can catch them. We don’t know how they will react.”
“If you get a negative result in any one of these steps,” she added, “it’s basically game over” for the capture plan. Even in the best of scenarios, breeding in captivity is unlikely to restore the population. A female vaquita gives birth to one calf every two years on average.
If the proposal goes forward, the vaquita would join other species at the brink of extinction — like the California condor and the golden lion tamarin, in Brazil — that are being closely managed in some form distinct from their natural setting. It would be the first such effort for a marine mammal.

SpaceX Plans to Send 2 Tourists Around Moon in 2018

SpaceX, the ambitious rocket company headed by Elon Musk, wants to send a couple of tourists around the moon and back before the end of next year. If they manage that feat, they would be the first humans to venture that far into space in more than 40 years.
Mr. Musk made the announcement on Monday in a telephone news conference. He said two private individuals approached the company to see if SpaceX would be willing to send them on a weeklong cruise, which would fly past the surface of the moon — but not land — and continue outward before Earth’s gravity turned the spacecraft around and brought it back for a landing.
“This would do a long loop around the moon,” Mr. Musk said. The company is aiming to launch this moon mission in late 2018, he said. The two people would spend about a week inside one of SpaceX’s Dragon 2 capsules, launched on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket. The spacecraft would be automated, but the travelers would undergo training for emergencies, Mr. Musk said. He did not say how much the travelers would pay for the ride, but the Falcon Heavy itself has a list price of $90 million.
He said the two would-be private space travelers wished to remain anonymous for now, and he declined to describe them except to say that they knew each other. In response to a reporter’s question, Mr. Musk did say the two were not Hollywood people.
No astronauts have ventured beyond low-Earth orbit since the last of NASA’s Apollo moon landings in 1972. NASA is working on a rocket that would once again be capable of taking astronauts to deep space. But that first launch, without anyone on board, is scheduled for late next year. This month, NASA announced that it is looking at the possibility of putting astronauts on the first flight, but NASA officials say that would delay the launch into 2019.

13 Health and Nutrition Tips That Are Actually Evidence-Based

There is a lot of confusion as it pertains to health and nutrition.
People, even qualified experts, often seem to really have the exact opposite opinions.
However, despite all of the|most of the disagreements, there are always a few |issues that are well supported by research.
Listed below are 27 health and nutrition tips which are actually predicated on good science.

1. Don’t Drink Sugar Calories

Sugary drinks are the most fattening things you can put into your body.
This is because liquid sugar calories don’t get registered by the brain in the same way as calories from solid foods .
For this reason, when you drink soda, you end up eating more total calories .
Sugary drinks are strongly associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and all sorts of health problems.
Keep in mind that fruit juices are almost as bad as soda in this regard. They contain just as much sugar, and the small amounts of antioxidants do NOT negate the harmful effects of the sugar .

2. Eat Nuts

Despite being high in fat, nuts are incredibly nutritious and healthy.
They are loaded with magnesium, vitamin E, fiber and various other nutrients .
Studies show that nuts can help you lose weight, and may help fight type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Additionally, about 10-15% of the calories in nuts aren’t even absorbed into the body, and some evidence suggests that they can boost metabolism.
In one study, almonds were shown to increase weight loss by 62% compared to complex carbohydrates (.

3. Avoid Processed Junk Food (Eat Real Food Instead)

All the processed junk foods in the diet are the biggest reason the world is fatter and sicker than ever before.
These foods have been engineered to be “hyper-rewarding,” so they trick our brains into eating more than we need, even leading to addiction in some people.
They are also low in fiber, protein and micronutrients (empty calories), but high in unhealthy ingredients like added sugar and refined grains.

4. Don’t Fear Coffee

Coffee has been unfairly demonized. The truth is that it’s actually very healthy.
Coffee is high in antioxidants, and studies show that coffee drinkers live longer, and have a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and numerous other diseases .

5. Eat Fatty Fish

Pretty much everyone agrees that fish is healthy.
This is particularly true of fatty fish, like salmon, which is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and various other nutrients .
Studies show that people who eat the most fish have a lower risk of all sorts of diseases, including heart disease, dementia and depression

6. Get Enough Sleep

The importance of getting enough quality sleep can not be overstated.
It may be just as important as diet and exercise, if not more.
Poor sleep can drive insulin resistance, throw your appetite hormones out of whack and reduce your physical and mental performance .
What’s more, it is one of the strongest individual risk factors for future weight gain and obesity. One study showed that short sleep was linked to 89% increased risk of obesity in children, and 55% in adults

7. Take Care of Your Gut Health With Probiotics and Fiber

The bacteria in your gut, collectively called the gut microbiota, are sometimes referred to as the “forgotten organ.”
These gut bugs are incredibly important for all sorts of health-related aspects. A disruption in the gut bacteria is linked to some of the world’s most serious chronic diseases, including obesity .
A good way to improve gut health, is to eat probiotic foods (like live yogurt and sauerkraut), take probiotic supplements, and eat plenty of fiber. Fiber functions as fuel for the gut bacteria

8. Drink Some Water, Especially Before Meals

Drinking enough water can have numerous benefits.
One important factor, is that it can help boost the amount of calories you burn.
According to 2 studies, it can boost metabolism by 24-30% over a period of 1-1.5 hours. This can amount to 96 additional calories burned if you drink 2 liters (67 oz) of water per DAY
The best time to drink water is half an hour before meals. One study showed that half a liter of water, 30 minutes before each meal, increased weight loss by 44%

9. Don’t Overcook or Burn Your Meat

Meat can be a nutritious and healthy part of the diet. It is very high in protein, and contains various important nutrients.
The problems occur when meat is overcooked and burnt. This can lead to the formation of harmful compounds that raise the risk of cancer
So, eat your meat, just don’t overcook or burn it.

10. Avoid Bright Lights Before Sleep

When we’re exposed to bright lights in the evening, this disrupts production of the sleep hormone melatonin
An interesting “hack” is to use a pair of amber-tinted glasses that block blue light from entering your eyes in the evening.
This allows melatonin to be produced as if it were completely dark, helping you sleep better .

11. Take Vitamin D3 if You Don’t Get Much Sun

Back in the day, most people got their vitamin D from the sun.
The problem is that most people don’t get much sun these days. They either live where there is no sun, or they stay inside most of the day or use sunscreen when they go out.
According to data from 2005-2006, about 41.6% of the US population is deficient in this critical vitamin
If adequate sun exposure is not an option for you, then supplementing with vitamin D has been shown to have numerous benefits for health.
This includes improved bone health, increased strength, reduced symptoms of depression and a lower risk of cancer, to name a few. Vitamin D may also help you live longer

12. Eat Vegetables and Fruits

Vegetables and fruits are the “default” health foods, and for good reason.
They are loaded with prebiotic fiber, vitamins, minerals and all sorts of antioxidants, some of which have potent biological effects.
Studies show that people who eat the most vegetables and fruits live longer, and have a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and all sorts of diseases

13. Make Sure to Eat Enough Protein

Eating enough protein is incredibly important, and many experts believe that the recommended daily intake is too low.
Protein is particularly important for weight loss, and works via several different mechanisms .
A high protein intake can boost metabolism significantly, while making you feel so full that you automatically eat fewer calories. It can also cut cravings and reduce the desire for late-night snacking
Eating plenty of protein has also been shown to lower blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

They also run Android 7.0 Nougat, but Huawei has tinkered with the operating system by laying its own EMUI 5.1 software over the top of it.
The company’s also decided to ditch the phone’s soft keys.
The home, back and recent apps commands all live within the fingerprint sensor below the screen. Users have to tap it once to go back, hold it to go home and swipe it to view the recently used apps screen.
Huawei says that maximising the usefulness of the display was the reason behind the move, but we’re not sure users will be too thrilled about having to learn a bunch of new gestures, albeit simple ones.
The smartphone also features something called Ultra Memory, which uses a machine-learning algorithm to optimise memory use, something Huawei claims will make apps open faster.
Ultra Response, meanwhile, enables the phone to predict which areas of the screen the user’s fingers will next touch.
The P10’s camera system is also somewhat unusual, combining a 12-megapixel colour sensor with a 20-megapixel mono sensor.
Huawei calls the system the Leica Dual Camera 2.0 Pro Edition, and says the Portrait Mode included in the P10’s camera app will optimise the lighting in scene to help users capture more “artistic” shots.
The P10 will be available in a wide number of colours, including Ceramic White, Dazzling Blue, Dazzling Gold, Prestige Gold, Graphite Black, Mystic Silver, Rose Gold, Greenery.
Huawei hasn't announced UK pricing yet, but the P10 will cost €649 and the P10 Plus will cost €699 when they go on sale in March.
